DanceBlue Thank You to Campus Community

Cue the confetti – together we did something amazing!

UK Transportation Services extends a heartfelt “Thank You” to the campus community for supporting DanceBlue by settling citations from March 22-28. Thanks to your generosity, the department contributed $45,077 toward this important cause, representing 1,270 citations paid by 805 members of the campus community.

This marks the second year that Transportation Services has participated in this initiative, donating one week’s citation proceeds to support this fully student-run organization. One hundred percent of all parking citation fines collected during that week was donated to DanceBlue in support of the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at UK Golisano Children’s Hospital.

DanceBlue is a student-run organization dedicated to raising funds and awareness for pediatric cancer in the Commonwealth year-round. Its efforts culminate in a 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon.

“Our department is proud to partner with DanceBlue,” said Lance Broeking, executive director of Auxiliary Services and UK Transportation Services. “This collaboration allows us to turn a negative -- a parking citation -- into something positive by contributing to a meaningful cause.”

Transportation Services is a self-funded campus department, with approximately six percent of its total revenue generated through citation fees. While these funds primarily offset the cost of parking enforcement, the larger purpose of our parking enforcement program is to educate the community of campus parking rules and redirect negative parking behavior towards compliant parking options. Redirecting a small portion of citation fees toward programs like the annual Donations for Citations and DanceBlue drives, enables Transportation Services to still accomplish the goals of parking enforcement, while also giving back to the campus community in a distinctly positive way.

“On behalf of all of DanceBlue, we want to thank UK Transportation Services as well as the University students and staff for their generous contribution to our cause,” said Claire Prater, DanceBlue Corporate Relations Chairman. “We’re thankful for the opportunity to bring our community together to fight against childhood cancer, ‘Til the Battle is Won.’”
