Bus Service During Delays, Early Dismissal, Closures or Emergencies
In the event that the University is closed or is operating on a delay, early dismissal, or a delay turned to closure, campus bus service will follow the guidelines listed below:
- The campus Blue, White, Orange, Green, and Yellow bus routes will continue to run as road conditions allow.
- The Purple Route will not run during closures or delays, although Purple Route buses may provide service temporarily to assist students in returning to their vehicles during early dismissals.
UK Transportation understands riders are dependent on the bus system to get to and from work and classes. It is our commitment to offer the best possible service during severe weather events. However, it is important for riders to anticipate potential delays due to severe weather conditions or other traffic impacts. Planning extra time in your commute is recommended in these situations.
Bus service during campus emergency events is contingent upon campus conditions. Service may be interrupted due to imminent severe weather, road conditions, or at the direction of emergency officials. Service will resume upon passing of emergency conditions or at the direction of emergency officials.
For example, during tornado warnings, campus bus service will be temporarily suspended and will resume once the warning has been lifted. Updates will be provided at uky.edu/alerts.
In the interest of safety for bus drivers and passengers, UK buses in service will be directed to the nearest facility and instructed to seek shelter indoors until the emergency condition has passed.
Rider alerts will be posted on Transit, UK's free bus tracking app. Please download Transit to stay up-to-date on service impacts.
Parking on Campus
UK's parking regulations remain in effect during campus emergencies, delays, closures and early dismissals unless otherwise communicated (UK parking and permit regulations, paragraph I.D.5.).
Please note that UK HealthCare patient and visitor parking areas are also under normal control and remain restricted to patients and patient visitors (UKHC Policy A10-055) from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. These structures include the UK HealthCare Garage, Kentucky Clinic Garage, and Good Samaritan Hospital Garage.
Given UK HealthCare’s continued responsibility for uninterrupted care during severe winter weather, Facilities Management prioritizes UK HealthCare patient, visitor, and employee parking areas and supporting campus road networks for snow and ice removal. Transportation Services continues to serve periphery employee parking areas via the Orange Route.
Overnight UKHC employees who are required to remain on campus past their regular nighttime shift may remain parked in the UK HealthCare garages provided they are parked on the appropriate upper floors and displaying a valid employee or off-peak parking permit. Transportation Services will work closely with UK HealthCare administrators to ensure that any extended shift employee parking is properly authorized.
