5K Race Set for Saturday: Expect Traffic, Parking & Transportation Impacts
DanceBlue is hosting a “Color Me Blue” 5K race on campus this Saturday, November 5, from 2-3 p.m. UK employees and students should anticipate traffic, transportation, and parking impacts. In particular, permit holders with R7, R11, R13, and R15 permits will be affected.
Please see additional details and recommendations below.
The 5K race will start and end at the south campus lawn. (See map below.) UK police officers will be on-site to direct traffic.
Most impacts will be from 2 p.m. until approximately 4 p.m. Saturday:
- Complex Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic and vehicles parked along Complex Drive will not be able to exit during this timeframe. This will primarily affect R7 permit holders. If access to your vehicle is needed on Saturday afternoon, please consider moving it to the Sports Center Garage (PS #7).
- Sports Center Drive will remain open to vehicular traffic, as race participants will run on the sidewalks in this area. However, individuals will not be able to load or unload items at Woodland Glen 2, 3, and 4 residence halls during this timeframe.
- Columbia Avenue will be closed from 2 until approximately 4 p.m. and vehicles parked off this roadway will not be able to exit. This closure will affect Greek housing lots R11, R13, and R15, as well as the Hilary J. Boone Center and Columbia Avenue East and West lots. R11, R13, and R15 permit holders may move their vehicles to other nearby lots or structures, such as Rose Street Garage (PS #2), or the employee intermediate surface lots located off Linden Walk. See our off-peak parking map for additional parking options. Employees who typically park in the Hilary Boone Center Lot or Columbia Avenue East and West lots on Saturday should instead choose other lots or structures outside of this area.
- Vehicles traveling along University Drive to Hilltop will be rerouted at the Hilltop/Woodland Avenue intersection near the 90 during this time and asked to turn around.
- Campus Yellow Route buses will follow a modified route Saturday afternoon to avoid the race area. The buses will travel along the west side of campus, from Kroger Field to South Limestone, right on West Maxwell, right on Martin Luther King Boulevard, and right on Avenue of Champions, traveling back to Kroger Field along South Limestone. Regular stops between Avenue of Champions and Cooper Drive will be unavailable during the race. Yellow Route buses will resume their normal route after the roads have reopened.
