Big Blue Cycles Registration Now Open For 2018; Spring Cleaning Bike Clinic Tomorrow
Big Blue Cycles Registration Now Open For 2018
The application for the Big Blue Cycles fleet is now open for the 2018-2019 academic year. The fleet of 150 bicycles is available exclusively to students living in campus housing who sign a commitment not to bring a car to Lexington. Students selected for the program will have the use of the bicycle for the entire academic year.
The Big Blue Cycles fleet – part of the nationally-recognized Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library – was founded in 2014. Big Blue Cycles are commuter-style, 8-speed bicycles equipped with fenders, a lock, a helmet and a bell.
If more than 150 students apply for the bikes, a random drawing will be used to select the group of students eligible for the program. Returning residents who held a parking permit the previous year will receive priority consideration.
The bicycles are made possible by a funding partnership between the Executive Vice President for Finance and Administration, the Student Sustainability Council and Transportation Services. The helmets are provided through a partnership with the UK HealthCare Level I Trauma Program, and locks are provided by Student Government.
The deadline to apply for a Big Blue Cycle is Friday, July 20, 2018.

Spring Cleaning Bike Clinic Tomorrow
As the weather improves, more UK students and employees will be hopping on their bikes, whether as their primary mode of transportation or for leisure. To mark the first day of spring, UK Transportation Services is offering a clinic to help get those pedals ready for rides. The Spring Bike Cleaning Clinic will be held Tuesday, March 20, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library, located on the first floor of Blazer Dining.
The clinic will include topics such as bearing systems, wheel trueness, cable systems, braking and shifting systems, and chain maintenance and cleaning. Participants will also be able to make their own pedal-powered smoothie.
Don’t have your own bike? Wildcat Wheels has free short-term and long-term bike checkout, open to UK students and employees. Learn more at www.uky.edu/transportation/wildcatwheels.
