Do you cycle to campus, regardless of the weather? UK Transportation Services will celebrate all season cyclists during our upcoming Winter Bike to Campus Day.

Each year, UK Transportation Services recognizes cyclists who brave the winter weather to cycle year-round. This year’s event is set for 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 8. Stop by our tent at Wildcat Alumni Plaza to highlight all-weather cycling as an effective and efficient mode of transportation.

Enjoy a cup of hot coffee or hot chocolate and grab some swag (UK-branded balaclavas!), while supplies last. You must be on a bicycle to participate.

The Wildcat Wheels mobile bike shop will be on-site to assist with any on-the-spot tune-ups. Staff will also offer live demonstrations on how to load your bicycle onto a bus rack.

“Cycling is a feasible option for Lexington residents all year ‘round,” said Sandra Broadwill, UK Transportation Services’ Alternative Transportation Manager. “Sometimes riding in the cold or rain is invigorating, and helps you feel like you’ve accomplished something before your day even begins (as long as you have the appropriate gear to stay warm and dry). Winter Bike to Campus Day is our way to show appreciation to the folks who stay committed to a sustainable commute, regardless of the season.”

UK Transportation Services invests in campus bicycle infrastructure, education, and encouragement projects, many of which are guided by the leadership of the Bicycle Advisory Committee. These efforts have been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists in designating UK as a Gold level Bicycle Friendly University.
