UK Transportation Services is not planning to run the Orange Route Extension for the fall 2020 semester. Employees who typically park in the Orange Lot should continue to park there as normal. Working closely with UK HealthCare leadership, Transportation Services has made several small adjustments to permit allocations for this lot. These changes, coupled with an increase in employees utilizing remote work opportunities, are expected to result in reduced parking pressure on the Orange Lot.

UK Transportation Services will closely monitor parking availability in the lot over the first few weeks of classes and will be prepared to implement overflow parking and route extension service if necessary. If this does becomes necessary, Transportation Services employees will be on-site to assist permit holders with identifying overflow parking and will communicate associated changes to the Orange Route.

The start of fall semester traditionally brings with it a surge in parking demand, which in the past has contributed to the Orange Lot periodically reaching capacity between 10 and 11 a.m. on Monday through Thursday, with parking demand typically subsiding between 1 and 2 p.m. During periods where the lot reached capacity, employees were directed to the College Way East lot, a 300-space periphery (K & EK) parking area located off College Way across from the Motor Pool. An extension to the Orange Route was in effect during these times.

Employees who prefer to park in the College Way lots may still do so and can either walk to the Orange Route shelter or take the Green Route from the College Way lots to the West Blue Lot bus shelter and transfer bus routes from there.

Please see the Orange Route map for more details. The Orange Route runs 5 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday from the Orange Lot to the UK HealthCare campus. It is available on-demand from midnight to 5 a.m. by calling 859-257-RIDE or 859-257-7433 to arrange for a pick-up.

If you have questions or need more information, please call 859-257-5757 or email UK Transportation Services.
