South Limestone Garage Expansion Construction Impact
Construction activity on the University of Kentucky's South Limestone Garage (PS #5) expansion is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. With this increased activity, the construction team will revise the perimeter fence around the project site to facilitate the first phase of construction.
Please note the following:
- The closure of the two South Upper Street exits across from Bolivar Street will occur beginning Wednesday, July 17.
- Existing garage entrances on South Limestone and South Upper will remain open.
- Existing garage exits on South Limestone as well as the southernmost South Upper Street will remain open.
The conclusion of "see blue." U summer orientation sessions and the typical lower summer parking demand will lessen some of the closure impact of the two exits across from Bolivar. Nonetheless, individuals who park in the South Limestone Garage may experience delays during the evening rush hour and should plan accordingly.
Recognizing that the start of the fall semester will bring increased traffic and parking demands, the university is continuing to work with the construction team to explore options to mitigate impact to the campus community and ensure ongoing access to and from the South Limestone Garage during the expansion construction.
Once completed, the project will feature a six-story horizontal expansion, matching the height of the current garage. It will add more than 900 new parking spaces to north campus, in addition to private retail and university innovation space on the ground floor.
The project is expected to be completed in August 2020.
