Thank You for Supporting DanceBlue!
UK Transportation Services is grateful to the campus community for supporting DanceBlue by settling citations from March 2-8. Thanks to your generosity, the department contributed $41,890 toward this important cause, representing 1,194 citations paid by 621 members of the campus community.
For the first time, Transportation Services partnered with DanceBlue by donating one week’s citation proceeds to support the mission of this fully student-run organization. One hundred percent of all parking citation fines collected during the week of March 2-8 was donated to DanceBlue to support the UK Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic.
DanceBlue is an entirely student-run organization at UK which raises funds and awareness for pediatric cancer in the Commonwealth year-round. DanceBlue culminates in a 24-hour no sitting, no sleeping dance marathon, scheduled for 8 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 29-30 at historic Memorial Coliseum.
“Our department was excited to partner with DanceBlue”, said Lance Broeking, director of UK Transportation Services. “While parking enforcement is a necessary component of effectively managing our campus parking system, it often generates negative emotions. This unique partnership, however, serves as both a tangible and symbolic way of turning the negative experience of receiving a parking citation into positivity associated with supporting such a worthy cause.”
Transportation Services is a self-funded campus department. Approximately six percent of total departmental revenue is generated through citation fines and that revenue essentially offsets the cost of parking enforcement activities.
"DanceBlue feels incredibly grateful to have campus-wide support, including UK Transportation Services,” said Anneli White, DanceBlue marketing chairman. “We have felt our community's generosity in beautiful ways this school year, and we are excited to reveal our grand total of fundraising on Sunday, March 30, at the conclusion of the 20th Anniversary DanceBlue Marathon!"
Since its inception 20 years ago, DanceBlue has raised more than $23 million dollars to fight pediatric cancer. For more details about its mission, visit DanceBlue.org.
