Upcoming Concert to Impact Parking & Transportation

Kentucky native Chris Stapleton, an award-winning singer and songwriter, will perform a “Concert for Kentucky” at Kroger Field on Saturday, April 23. He’ll be joined by artists, Willie Nelson, Sheryl Crow, and Madeline Edwards. The performance will attract a large fan base, so UK students and employees should anticipate transportation and parking-related impacts in the Kroger Field area in the days leading up to and during the event.

 

Parking Impacts

UK parking permit holders who park in the Kroger Field South Red Lot will be required to relocate their vehicles prior to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 15, to facilitate concert staging and setup. This is the Friday before Easter, so many students will be travelling over this weekend and therefore moving their vehicles anyway. Please note that this area will be blocked and unavailable for periphery (K) permit holder parking through Tuesday, April 26.

 

The Commonwealth Drive Lot will also be unavailable beginning Sunday, April 17, as that lot will be used to stage tractor trailer trucks associated with the event.

 

The remainder of the Kroger Field Red and Blue lots will be open for periphery permit holder parking until 7 a.m. on the day of the concert. Permit holders in these locations will need to relocate their vehicles away from these areas prior to 7 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, much like they would for a home football game.

 

Green Lot permit holders (R10, E10, C10) will also need to relocate their vehicles from the Green Lot prior to 10 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

 

Permitted RV parking for concertgoers is authorized in the west portion of the Orange Lot beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 22, similar to RV parking for home football games. Employees who typically park in the Orange Lot are asked to avoid parking in the designated RV parking area if they anticipate remaining on campus beyond 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22.

 

Parking on University Drive will be prohibited beginning at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, to support concert traffic.

 

Vehicle Relocation Areas:

Vehicles in the affected areas can be relocated away from the Kroger Field lots beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, April 22. Parking needs ease considerably on the weekends, so ample parking should be available.

 

The following lots and structures are available for relocation purposes:

• Employee intermediate lots
• Cornerstone Garage (PS #5)
• Rose Street Garage (PS #2)
• Press Avenue Garage (PS #6)
• Scott Street area commuter lots

Residential areas and reserved lots and structures are monitored for those specific permits 24 hours a day, seven days a week and are not available for relocation purposes.

 

All vehicles must be moved back from relocation areas to permitted parking areas before 5 a.m. on Monday, April 25. Failure to relocate your vehicle can result in a citation or vehicle impoundment.

 

Yellow Route Bus Service Changes

The weekend Yellow Route will continue to run on the day of the concert, but the buses will not access the Tobacco Research, Blue Lot, and Red Lot stops. Yellow Route buses will instead use Cooper Drive as their southernmost stop, similar to typical football game day bus service.
