Upcoming Impact to Cooper Drive Tunnel
Pedestrians and cyclists should anticipate upcoming changes to the Cooper Drive tunnel starting as early as next month.
The Cooper Drive tunnel will temporarily become the only vehicular access available to the Plant Sciences and Tobacco Research dock area, starting as early as November 1. This access will be available via Veterans Drive from the north side of Cooper Drive through the tunnel. The tunnel will not be available for thru traffic.
Pedestrians and cyclists should exercise caution when traveling through the tunnel, knowing that vehicles will also be using this route.
While pedestrian sidewalks will be available, it may be safer to use designated crosswalks along University Drive and Nicholasville Road/Limestone. Cyclists are also asked to walk their bikes through the tunnel during this time.
This change is associated with road work required for the new Agriculture Research Building.
