UK Transportation Services is pleased to announce that an additional 76 parking spaces are being added to the Press Avenue South E-intermediate parking lot. To ensure this addition is available for permit holders as soon as possible, a portion of the existing lot will be closed this Thursday and Friday, Aug. 13-14, to allow contractors to work freely in the vicinity.

The new parking area will be connected to the existing lot, expanding it by approximately 25,000 square feet.

Contractors will begin by demolishing existing light poles and islands, as well as milling and adding temporary striping.

The expansion is expected to open by August 31, although much of this work is weather dependent so the date could change slightly.

In addition to more parking spaces, the lot will feature a new exit onto Press Avenue, with an entrance into the expansion from the existing access roadway. The current exit onto Press Avenue will be permanently closed, and a retaining wall constructed in the vicinity.

New lighting will be installed, and the entire Press Avenue South Lot will be restriped and repaved later.

For now, this surface lot is still called Press Avenue South, but that name will change soon. Press Avenue is being renamed to Elizabeth Street to provide continuity from Virginia Avenue to Waller Avenue.

Employee intermediate permit holders impacted by this temporary closure may park in Press Avenue Garage, or they may consider parking in the Kroger Field Orange Lot, North Red Lot, or South Red Lot on Thursday and Friday. The lot is expected to reopen on Monday, Aug. 17, weather permitting.
