Winter Bike to Campus Day is Wednesday, Feb. 9
Cold weather is no excuse to give up on cycling to campus, whether you dig winter vibes or shiver all season.
Each year, UK Transportation Services recognizes cyclists who brave the winter weather to cycle year-round during Winter Bike to Campus Day. This year’s event will be held from 7:30am to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 9. Stop by our tent at the Mining and Minerals Research Building Plaza to celebrate any-weather cycling as an effective and efficient mode of transportation.
Pause your pedals for free coffee, hot chocolate, and swag (UK-branded balaclavas!), while supplies last. You must be on a bicycle to participate.
The event will also feature the Wildcat Wheels mobile bike shop for on-the-spot tune-ups and live demonstrations on loading your bicycle onto a bus rack. Pick up information on thriving without a car at UK, campus and city bicycle resources, and get answers to any cold weather bicycle-related questions. Winter Bike to Campus Day is intended to offer encouragement to all-weather cyclists and builds on the effort and education of showing cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation off and on campus all year long.
“This will be our fifth annual Winter Bike to Campus Day event,” said Sandra Broadwill, UK Transportation Services’ Alternative Transportation Manager. “We’ll be out there, rain or shine, to hand out goodies and help with bike tune-ups. Make plans to stop by!”
UK Transportation Services invests in campus bicycle infrastructure, education, and encouragement projects, many of which are guided by the leadership of the Bicycle Advisory Committee. These efforts have been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists in designating UK as a Gold level Bicycle Friendly University and also by Bicycling Magazine in naming UK the most bicycle-friendly university in America in 2018.
Recently, UK completed its Bicycle Master Plan, which outlines priority bicycle-related projects for the next five years.
