We're Celebrating All-Weather Cyclists on February 12

Winter weather doesn’t mean you have to give up cycling to campus. Each year, UK Transportation Services recognizes cyclists who brave the cold to cycle year-round during Winter Bike to Campus Day. This year will mark the fourth annual event, held from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 12. Stop by our tent at the Mine and Minerals Research Building Plaza to celebrate any-weather cycling as an effective and efficient mode of transportation.

Orange Lot & Orange Route Extension Update

Following the start of the spring 2020 semester, the Orange Lot has been experiencing a surge in parking demand, resulting in the lot reaching capacity sooner than the typical times experienced during fall 2019.  A large component of this increased parking demand is likely the result of temporary loss of on-street parking along University Drive due to utility infrastructure work.

Winslow Street Project Construction to Impact Traffic

Commuters should anticipate traffic impacts in the Winslow Street area beginning as early as the week of Monday, Jan. 27.   Contractors working on the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) addition project are expected to close one lane of Winslow Street to facilitate deployment of a crane necessary to install pre-cast panels on the north face of the garage expansion. This work is expected to take approximately two weeks.

Press Avenue (E27) Parking Lot Impacts

Contractors will begin installing air handler units on the Healthy Kentucky Research Building early next week, which will require that a crane be stationed in the Press Avenue (E27) parking lot. Forty-two (42) parking spaces, plus eight (8) ADA-accessible spaces adjacent to the building will be blocked to allow for safe staging of the crane.

Linden Walk Lot Reserved on Friday

The Linden Walk (E-Intermediate) Lot, located off Linden Walk, will be reserved on Friday, Jan. 10, for a University of Kentucky Alumni Association board meeting and related events. Affected employees are asked to consider parking in other E-Intermediate lots in the vicinity, including the King Alumni North and South lots, the Career Center Lot, and the Schmidt Lot. Other options include the Memorial Coliseum Lot and the South Limestone Garage (PS #5).

UK Transportation Services takes a number of parking areas off control during portions of winter break. Campus bus service also operates on a modified schedule. UK Employee Parking Lots & Structures In general, all employee lots remain on control for permits, with the exception of December 23 through January 1.

Projects to Impact Parking & Traffic on University & Complex

Upcoming projects on University and Complex drives will impact parking and transportation in those areas as early as December 20. Contractors are expected to begin installing a sanitary sewer on Complex Drive just before winter break, which will require that street be closed to traffic through approximately January 12. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

State Football Championship to Impact Parking & Traffic

The UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl will take place beginning on Friday, Dec. 6, and will impact traffic, campus bus schedules and parking. The KHSAA football playoffs will be held over three days at Kroger Field, Friday, Dec. 6, through Sunday, Dec. 8. High school football fans are expected to travel from across the Commonwealth to cheer on teams in six classes for the 2019 gridiron bowl. This is the third year that Kroger Field will be the site of the championship games, which drew nearly 40,000 fans last year.
