Expect significant traffic delays

More than 8,000 students will move into residence halls between Aug. 16 and Aug. 19. Increased traffic, parking demand and bus route changes are expected across campus.

Areas most affected

• Avenue of Champions
• University Drive
• Huguelet Drive
• Hilltop Avenue
• Woodland Avenue
• Sports Center Drive
• Martin Luther King Boulevard
• Lexington Avenue

Drivers should allow extra travel time and avoid these areas when possible. 

Temporary traffic changes

Several campus roads will operate as one-way streets from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. during move-in, including: 

• One-way southbound: Martin Luther King Boulevard between Good Samaritan parking lot and Avenue of Champions  
• One-way southbound: Lexington Avenue between Maxwell Street and Avenue of Champions  
• NOTE: Employee (E) lot entrance north of the Joe Craft Center CLOSED at Lexington Avenue; enter and exit only at Rose Street  
• One-way westbound: Avenue of Champions between Rose Street and South Limestone (no through traffic)  
• One-way westbound: Huguelet Drive between University Drive and Rose Street  
• One-way northbound: University Drive between Cooper Drive and Huguelet Drive 
• One-way eastbound: Hilltop Avenue between University Drive and Woodland Avenue  
• One-way northbound: Woodland Avenue between Hilltop Avenue and Columbia Avenue
• One-way southbound: Sports Center Drive between Woodland Avenue and the Employee (E) lot north of the Nutter Football Training Facility  
• One-way eastbound: pedestrian walkway in front of Woodland Glen V  

Bus service changes

• Blue Route and White Route buses will follow modified routes.
• Orange Route (UK HealthCare) buses will use a detour during peak move-in hours.
• Regular routes resume after move-in concludes.

Wildcat Fest — Aug. 19 4 p.m.-midnight

Avenue of Champions will close between the Gatton Student Center and Rose Street. Drivers should use alternate routes. Blue and White bus routes will be detoured. 

Wildcat WELLcome — Aug. 22 4 p.m.-midnight

Avenue of Champions will close between South Limestone and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Drivers should expect delays in the area. 

NOTE: Traffic could be impacted before 4 p.m. due to event set up. Watch for signs and follow directions from UK Police. 

Linden Walk E Lot closure — Aug. 18-20

The Linden Walk E Lot will temporarily close for an event.

Alternative parking locations for E permit holders include: 

• Alumni E Lot 
• Career Center E Lot 
• Coliseum E Lots 
• College View E Lots 
• PS #5 (available and free)

Ongoing traffic impacts

Construction related to the UK HealthCare Chandler Hospital expansion continues to affect travel near University Drive and Hospital Drive. Expect slower traffic and periodic changes to traffic patterns. 

Important change

There is currently no left turn from southbound University Drive onto Cooper Drive because of expansion-related construction. 

Hospital Area Impacts

• Emergency Department Lot temporarily relocated.
• Agriculture Lot parking reduced.
• Pedestrian routes may shift as construction progresses.
• Two-way traffic on Hospital Drive remains available.
