The Annex 5 Lot, an employee intermediate surface lot located between Kelley Hall and Medical Center Annex #5, is expected to permanently close on Monday, February 19. The adjacent Kelley Hall service parking area will also close to allow for construction of the Michael D. Rankin M.D. Health Education Building.

This closure will impact 41 parking spaces; 24 employee intermediate spaces and 17 loading, service, and official vehicle spaces. Contractors are expected to begin installing gates and perimeter fencing on February 19.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the 500,000 square foot Health Education Building was held in October 2023. Once completed, the building will house programs in the colleges of Medicine, Public Health, Health Sciences and Nursing, as well as the Center for Interprofessional and Community Health Education. The $380 million building is expected to open in 2026 and will be located across University Drive from University Flats. It will have eight floors on the south wing and 10 floors on the north wing, according to an article in UK Now.

Impacted employee intermediate permit holders may park in other nearby employee intermediate areas, including along University Drive and in the University Drive Garage (PS #1).
