DanceBlue 5K is this Sunday
The annual DanceBlue 5K will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 20, from Alumni Commons. This event will impact parking, transit, and traffic on campus from approximately 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.
University of Kentucky police officers will be on-site to direct traffic at various points along the route to allow participants to pass safely.
In particular, permit holders with R2, R7, R11, R13, R15 and C16 permits will be affected, as will employee lots at Boone Center, Columbia Avenue, Woodland Avenue, and Hilltop Avenue Garage (PS #2).
Primary areas impacted are:
- Columbia Avenue: Columbia Avenue will be closed from 2 to 3 p.m.. Vehicles parked in this area will not be able to leave during this timeframe. New traffic traveling down Rose Street will be stopped at Rose Lane. This closure will impact the Columbia Avenue employee lots and the Greek housing residential lots that exit or enter off Columbia Avenue. It will also impact the Hilary J. Boone Center Lot.
- Woodland Avenue/Hilltop Avenue: Vehicles will be re-routed and asked to turn around. Motorists will not be able to drive through this area from approximately 2 to 3 p.m. This will include Hilltop Avenue Garage (PS #2).
- Sports Center Drive: Runners will be on sidewalks, not on the roadway. However, cars will not be able to load or unload at Woodland Glenn 2, 3, or 4 residence halls from approximately 2 to 3 p.m.
- Complex Drive: Complex Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic from approximately 2 to 3 p.m. Vehicles parked in this area will not be able to leave and new vehicles will not be able to access the area. This will primarily affect R7 permit holders. R7 permit holders who need access to their vehicles during this timeframe should consider moving into Sports Center Garage before Sunday afternoon.
- Huguelet Drive: Huguelet Drive will not be accessible from approximately 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Campus Yellow Route buses will follow a modified route Sunday afternoon to avoid the race area. The buses will travel along the west side of campus, from Kroger Field to South Limestone, right on West Maxwell, right on Martin Luther King Boulevard, and right on Avenue of Champions, traveling back to Kroger Field along South Limestone. Regular stops between Avenue of Champions and Cooper Drive will be unavailable during the race. Yellow Route buses will resume their normal route after the roads have reopened.
