We’ve brewed up a special Halloween-style Donations for Citations program this Fall, designed to put one regular citation to rest.

Donations for Citations is a popular program that helps stock the shelves at UK’s Big Blue Pantry (BBP). Previously, it’s only been offered in the spring, but it’s back by popular demand for one week only, Wednesday, October 25, through Wednesday, November 1.

UK students and employees who have a parking citation can pay their fee during this time by donating food or personal care items to BBP. Participating is easy! Simply bring your donations to our customer care center, located at 721 Press Avenue, to settle your citation. Our customer care center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Ten non-perishable (no glass, please) food items or five personal care items (no trial size) will waive one regular citation of $30 or less. Regular citations do not include immobilizations, impoundments, parking in fire lanes, ADA accessible parking violations or improper application or use of parking permits. Customers with unpaid citations must also pay any other outstanding citations to have one waived under this program. Citations waived through the drive are not eligible for appeal.

This is the first time that UK Transportation Services has offered its Donations for Citations program in the Fall. The drive will also return for two weeks again next spring. Transportation Services partners with BBP, an on-campus organization that works to combat hunger and food insecurity for UK students.

Since its inception in 2016, Donations for Citations has become one of the Pantry’s largest donation drives.

“We’re so excited to have Donations for Citations happening in the Fall semester for the first time! This event is our largest source of donated items in the Spring, so to have it happen twice a year will help so many students in need,” said Andrew Perkins, Program Coordinator for BBP. “We continue to be thankful for the generosity of the UK community.”

Lance Broeking, director of UK Transportation Services, said “We’re happy to offer this special one-week Fall version of Donations for Citations. This program provides a great opportunity for our department to give back to the campus community by helping combat food insecurity. It’s been so popular that we decided to expand it this year, in addition to our regular drive in the spring.”

This year, BBP is asking for the following food and personal care items:

Suggested Food Donation Items:

cereal, instant oatmeal, granola bars, pop tarts or other grab-n-go breakfast items, boxed macaroni, noodles, canned pasta sauce, rice, canned meats such as chicken, tuna, beef, pork or vegetarian alternatives, individual cups of fruit or applesauce, shelf-stable microwave meals, peanut butter, condiments, jellies, shelf-stable salad dressing

Please note: Expired, damaged, or opened donations will not be accepted. In addition, refrigerated items or those in glass containers will not be accepted.

Suggested Personal Care Items:

Cleaning supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, hand soap, hand sanitizer, body soap, shampoo, conditioner, shaving cream, razors, tampons, sanitary pads, first aid or medical supplies

Please note: Expired, damaged, or opened donations will not be accepted. No trial sizes, please.
