UK Transportation Services will hold its first National Campus Bike Summit in mid-October, drawing participants from across the country.

The summit is designed to provide sustainable transportation managers with valuable information and support to help make their own organizations more bike friendly. This free event will take place on Thursday, October 17, and Friday, October 18, at the Healthy Kentucky Research Building, located off Press Avenue.

There’s still time to register for the summit, and take part in sessions on campus bike infrastructure, community engagement strategies, and funding. Some of the session topics include ways to integrate bicycles as a funded component of a university’s transportation system; how to effectively advocate for bicycle-related projects; plus, a deep dive into campus bike programs, bike shops, and community engagement efforts.

A complete list of speakers and topics is available on the National Campus Bike Summit website and will include the following:

  • Anna Tang, Bicycle Friendly University Director with the League of American Bicyclists
  • Lance Broeking, Director of Transportation Services for the University of Kentucky
  • Emma Armendariz, Active Transportation Coordinator for the University of Arkansas
  • Mike Sewell, director of innovation for Gresham Smith

“UK is a nationally recognized gold-level bicycle friendly university,” said Lance Broeking, director of UK Transportation Services. “Our primary goal in the creation of this summit is to help other organizations learn some of the lessons we’ve discovered over the years, while gaining insight from other organizations to help improve our own bicycle programs.”

Participants who wish to stay after the conference can also take part in Wildcat Wheels’ 20th birthday celebration! Wildcat Wheels is UK’s on-campus bike shop and serves as the nexus of the University’s many bike-related programs.

If you have questions about the summit, please email UK Transportation Services.
