Signed, Sealed, & Delivered: UK Postal Service
Did you know that the University of Kentucky operates in-house post offices, complete with bulk mail capabilities? As the holidays approach, activity is ramping up, and the postal team is busier than ever!
“With the increase in mail volume, I recommend that students and employees mail their packages as early as possible,” said Tim Gentry, UK’s postal services manager. “Also, always remember to get a tracking number for your package so that it can be tracked, and you know it’s been delivered. Another piece of advice I would give is to consider sending gift cards instead of cash.”
UK’s postal offices provide all the services available at regular U.S. Postal Service offices. They’re conveniently located on campus, in two locations: the mezzanine level of Patterson Office Tower, and on the ground floor of Chandler Medical Center. Bulk mail services are situated in the Vaughan Warehouse on Versailles Road.
“Basically, anything you can do at an official post office is also available here,” said Gentry. “Our window services are open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.”
Available services include:
- Stamp sales
- First-class, express, priority, registered, insured, and certified mail
- Money orders
The bulk mail office is in a large warehouse, along with the post office distribution unit. Bulk mail service enables UK’s departments, colleges, and programs to send nonprofit mailings, a cost-effective way to reach large groups of people.
Gentry said that UK Bulk Mail prepares and submits more than two million pieces of mail annually. Bulk mail services can include addressing, discount postage, fulfillment and shipping, inserts and folding, variable data or personalized letters, and demographic and geographic mailing lists. Special contract pricing is also available to university partners.
