Alternate Routes

Beginning Sunday, Nov. 1, utility work and nightly lane closures associated with the Chandler Expansion project will affect vehicle access near UK HealthCare loading and delivery areas, particularly when accessed via the intersection of University and Cooper. Read more about the lane closures.

Closures are overnight only: Cooper Drive lanes close 6 p.m.–6 a.m. and University Drive closes fully 9 p.m.–5 a.m., so daytime deliveries aren’t affected.

To help minimize congestion and maintain access to the Emergency Department, vendors, couriers, delivery services and distribution partners are asked to use the route below when making deliveries or pickups at UK HealthCare facilities.

Required Route for Night Deliveries/Services

When approaching the healthcare campus:

Use:

  • S. Limestone > Huguelet Drive > University Drive > Hospital Drive
  • When exiting, please return using the same route.

Following this designated route will help reduce traffic impacts near the Emergency Department and support safe access for patients, visitors and emergency vehicles.

What to Expect

  • Utility work begins as early as Sunday, Nov. 1, and is expected to last about two weeks, depending on weather.
  • Cooper Drive: Temporary lane closures nightly from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. One lane will stay open when possible, with flaggers directing traffic.
  • University Drive: Full road closure nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. The road is open during the day, with steel plates in place to keep traffic moving.
  • North Red Lot: About 75 spaces in the northwest corner will be unavailable during the project.

Access to hospital delivery and loading areas will remain available using the designated route above. Please allow additional travel time when making deliveries or scheduled pickups, especially during overnight hours.
