Upcoming Orange Route & Parking Changes
Project: Michael D. Rankin Health Education Building (HEB)
Areas/Services Impacted: Orange Route Buses & Parking
Work on the Michael D. Rankin MD Health Education Building (HEB) project is continuing, and the next phase of the project will impact Orange Route buses and parking areas.
Overview:
- Contractors will paint and restripe the roadway and parking areas behind the Veterans Administration Hospital this weekend (March 14-15), weather permitting. Parking spaces will be converted to service use only. Flaggers will be on-site while this work is taking place.
- The Health Sciences Research Building Loop will close beginning Monday, March 23.
- Orange Route buses will begin a modified route in this area starting on March 23.
Orange Route Details:
Orange Route buses will continue from University Drive onto Veterans Drive, same as in the past, stop at HSRB, then turn left between the VA and HSRB, proceed behind the VA, then turn right onto Hospital Drive to service the Pavilion A bus stop, then proceed on Hospital Drive, turning right onto University Drive near Cooling Plant #1. (Please see the above map.)
The HSRB bus stop will be moved slightly to the south during this timeframe.
The roadway between the VA Hospital and Chandler Hospital is narrow for bus traffic. Parking adjustments in this area are intended to keep Orange Route buses moving efficiently and to minimize delays.
To improve traffic flow:
- Additional service and correctional officer parking will be added along Hospital Drive.
- Some staff parking spaces in this vicinity will be removed.
- Parking enforcement activities will increase, and unauthorized vehicles may be towed to keep the roadway clear.
These changes are expected to be in place through November.
