Big Blue Cycles Registration Now Open For 2017-2018

Big Blue Cycles Registration Now Open For 2017-2018 The application for the Big Blue Cycles fleet is now open for the 2017-2018 academic year. The fleet of more than 150 bicycles is available exclusively to students living in campus housing who sign a commitment not to bring a car to Lexington. Students selected for the program will have the use of the bicycle for the entire academic year.

Applications Now Open for 2017 Bike Voucher Program

Applications Now Open for 2017 Bike Voucher Program Transportation Services is now accepting applications for the 2017 edition of bicycle voucher program today, Monday, April 10. The program is designed to encourage employees and students to consider alternatives to driving a vehicle to campus by offering 100 qualified applicants each $400 in vouchers valid at any of the five participating local bike shops in exchange for agreeing not to purchase a motor vehicle permit for two years. The application window will close Friday, June 30.

Wildcat Wheels Fall 2017 Bike Lottery Now Open The lottery for fall semester bicycle check-out from the nationally-recognized Wildcat Wheels Bicycle Library (WWBL) is now open. Wildcat Wheels has a fleet of 100 bicycles that can be checked out at no cost for a full semester at a time. Since demand for these bikes often exceeds supply, distribution of the bikes is handled through a random lottery.

Ride in the Lexington Bike Challenge May is National Bike Month, and the UK Bicycle Advisory Committee is encouraging the campus community to participate in the annual Bike Lexington calendar of events. The eighth annual Lexington Bike Challenge is a fun and free incentive-based cycling initiative presented by the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, the Downtown Lexington Corporation and Love to Ride.

Survey: Cyclist Attitudes in Urban Settings The Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Kentucky and the Department of Civil Engineering and Architecture of the University of Catania are conducting research to identify the attitudes and opinions of cyclists on current infrastructure. The goal of this research is to increase bicycling as a mode of transportation. The survey is short and should take less five minutes to complete. Rose Street Construction Impact to Bike Routes The portion of Rose Street from Hilltop Avenue to Funkhouser Drive will be closed for utility work until late August. The sidewalk along the east side of this section remains open for pedestrians. Due to the narrowness of the sidewalk and its shared use, cyclists are advised to dismount and walk their bikes or to detour by riding around the Rose Street Garage (PS #2) for the duration of the project.

Campus Bike Rack Improvements in Progress In preparation for the start of fall semester, University of Kentucky Transportation Services is improving bicycle parking at various campus locations by updating the style of rack. During this work, some bike racks may be temporarily relocated and/or out of service. Members of the campus community who have bikes parked at any of the racks listed below should move them no later than Monday, August 7.
