Parking & Transportation Changes Over Winter Break

Campus parking control and bus services change significantly during the break between fall and spring semesters. UK Transportation Services takes a number of parking areas off control during portions of winter break. Campus bus service also operates on a modified schedule. Please see below for detailed parking and transportation-related changes during winter break. UK Employee Parking Lots & Structures In general, all employee lots remain on control for permits, with the exception of December 23 through January 1.

Projects to Impact Parking & Traffic on University & Complex

Upcoming projects on University and Complex drives will impact parking and transportation in those areas as early as December 20. Contractors are expected to begin installing a sanitary sewer on Complex Drive just before winter break, which will require that street be closed to traffic through approximately January 12. Pedestrian access will be maintained.

State Football Championship to Impact Parking & Traffic

The UK Orthopaedics/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl will take place beginning on Friday, Dec. 6, and will impact traffic, campus bus schedules and parking. The KHSAA football playoffs will be held over three days at Kroger Field, Friday, Dec. 6, through Sunday, Dec. 8. High school football fans are expected to travel from across the Commonwealth to cheer on teams in six classes for the 2019 gridiron bowl. This is the third year that Kroger Field will be the site of the championship games, which drew nearly 40,000 fans last year.

UK Women's Basketball Game/Education Day to Impact Parking

The University of Kentucky women’s basketball team will hold its Winning Tools Education Day and face the Charlotte 49ers on Wednesday, Dec. 4, in Memorial Coliseum. Tip-off for the game begins at noon. Students in area primary and secondary schools are expected to attend, which will impact parking on north campus.   To accommodate fans and school buses, the Linden Walk Lot (E-Intermediate) will be reserved from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday. In addition, gates at the South Limestone Garage (PS #5) will be open to the public beginning at 9 a.m.  

Spring Semester Parking Permit Sales Open Monday, Dec. 9

Beginning Monday, Dec. 9, UK Transportation Services will offer 2020 student spring semester parking permits for sale online and on-site.

Kentucky Wildcab Unavailable Over Thanksgiving Break

Kentucky Wildcab, the University’s free, late-night on-demand transportation service, will not be in operation over Thanksgiving Break, Nov. 28 through Dec. 1. The service will resume regular operation the following weekend, Thursday, Dec. 5, through Sunday, Dec. 8. Kentucky Wildcab provides free transportation for students from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights when school is in session. Wildcab rides are limited to the general campus vicinity with the service area accommodating the majority of areas adjacent to campus.

Thanksgiving Break Parking and Bus Changes

Thanksgiving break is just around the corner and UK Transportation Services wants to remind students, faculty and staff that during the break there will be parking and campus bus service changes. There is also a home football game scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 30, so vehicles will need to be relocated from the periphery parking areas to make way for Wildcat football fans. Need a Ride Home for Thanksgiving Break?

Tickets sales are now open for BreakShuttle, a charter bus service offered in cooperation with University of Kentucky Transportation Services. The BreakShuttle service enables students, faculty and staff to take a charter bus from campus to their hometowns and other destinations during major academic breaks. The service stops at numerous cities along these routes: Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Paducah and St. Louis. Bike Emergency? There's a Vending Machine for That

A bicycle break-down is no laughing matter, especially when it’s your primary mode of transportation. Keeping cyclists on the road is the impetus behind a new vending machine that dispenses bike parts instead of beverages.  

Expect Traffic Impacts on Monday, Nov. 4

University of Kentucky students, employees, patients and visitors are encouraged to consider the potential for significant traffic impacts Monday, Nov. 4, as the result of President Donald Trump’s visit to Lexington. He is scheduled to speak at a rally in Rupp Arena Monday evening. Commuters should anticipate traffic congestion and the potential for road closures during the afternoon commute.
