Kentucky Wildcab Service Starts Thursday

Kentucky Wildcab, the University’s free, late-night on-demand transportation service, begins its fourth year of service this Thursday, Aug. 22. Kentucky Wildcab provides free transportation for students from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Wildcab rides are limited to the general campus vicinity with the service area accommodating the majority of areas adjacent to campus.

Orange Lot Parking Capacity Contingency Plan

As a result of historical parking demand and ongoing campus growth, Transportation Services anticipates that the Orange Lot periphery parking area (EK) will intermittently reach capacity in the coming days and weeks. In an effort to continue to meet employee access needs during these peak parking demand periods, Transportation Services has established the following contingency plan which will be implemented during periods where the Orange Lot reaches capacity.

Extended Hours Available During August

UK Transportation Services will offer extended hours this month to assist students, staff and faculty in getting parking permits for the fall semester.

Cyclists on the University of Kentucky’s campus will notice a whole new fleet of Bike Repair Stations this year, replacing the old, worn varieties from previous years. Employees began installing the updated, more durable fix-it stations late last week.

Woodland Avenue E Lot Unavailable August 15

The Woodland Avenue (E-Intermediate) parking lot, located across from Woodland Glen II, will be reserved for Big Blue Move-In from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, August 15. Incoming students will use this lot for unloading. Employees who regularly park in the Woodland Avenue lot may park in other E-Intermediate lots in the area, including the Columbia Avenue East and West lots. Additional information for Big Blue Fall Move-in is available on the Campus Housing website.

Construction Project on Cooper Drive to Begin Mid-Week

Work is expected to begin mid-week to construct a bicycle lane on a section of Cooper Drive. The bike lane will replace existing sharrows (shared lane arrows) from the intersection of Sports Center Drive and Cooper Drive to just past the Kentucky Educational Television building. The project is expected to be completed within a few days and traffic flow will be maintained. However, traffic will at times be reduced to one lane, so motorists and cyclists should expect slowdowns and exercise caution in this area.

Tennis Championship to Impact Parking on Sports Center Drive

University of Kentucky employees who park in the Sports Center Garage (PS #7) and the small Sports Center Drive Employee Intermediate lot adjacent to the Hilary J. Boone Tennis Complex should plan for parking-related impacts next week. The Kentucky Bank Tennis Championships event will affect parking from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, July 29, through Sunday, August 4. Employees should an expect an influx of visitors during these times.

Parking on University Drive to be Affected by Repaving Project

Contractors are expected to begin a repaving project on University Drive mid-week this week, weather permitting. During the life of the project, a portion of parking on University Drive will be unavailable. Street parking on both sides of University from the intersection of University Drive and Cooper Drive to the first Red Lot entrance at Kroger Field will be unavailable for the duration of the project.

South Limestone Garage Expansion Construction Impact

Construction activity on the University of Kentucky's South Limestone Garage (PS #5) expansion is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. With this increased activity, the construction team will revise the perimeter fence around the project site to facilitate the first phase of construction.   Please note the following:

HVAC Installation to Temporarily Close Sidewalk

A portion of the sidewalk in front of University Health Services on South Limestone is scheduled to be temporarily closed on Wednesday, July 10, to allow for installation of two rooftop HVAC units at the Sanders-Brown Center on Aging.
